We offer Polaris 850 mountain sleds built for backcountry fun and optional trail sleds that can ride only on prepared trails. All sleds are under four years old and come with helmets, goggles, radios, beacons, and avalanche gear if desired, making them ideal for exploring the hundreds of miles of winter terrain around North Routt County.
How do snowmobile rentals work?
Snowmobile rentals at Steamboat Lake Outpost are full-day only and include everything you need to ride. You can leave straight from the lodge — no need to trailer your sled or drive to a trailhead! If you’re renting for multiple days, you’ll return the snowmobile at the end of your stay. Drivers must be at least 16 years old with a valid U.S. driver’s license. For international guests, we’re happy to work with you individually to verify licensing based on your country’s requirements.
Can I ride the snowmobiles anywhere I want?
Yes — you’re free to explore the vast winter terrain in North Routt and Clark County, except for parts that may be temporarily closed for safety. However, please note that the sleds are not registered for travel into Wyoming, so you must stay within Colorado borders.
What is the damage waiver policy for snowmobile rentals?
Renters are responsible for damage up to $2,000, which helps cover repairs if an accident happens. We provide safety gear and a safety briefing before you leave so you can ride responsibly.
