A real taste of Steamboat’s Western Heritage

We are located 25 miles north of Steamboat, out in the country, in a picturesque area of the county called “North Routt.” As you drive up from Steamboat, you’ll see lots of ranches dotting the valley. Up here, there are still folks working and living on cattle ranches. This is still the type of place where neighbors help each other during calving season, or repair fences together during the spring thaw. There’s a sense of authentic mountain culture here that is still somewhat untouched, and we love sharing that with our guests. And what better way to do that then saddle up with us and go for a ride?!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we have taken lots of folks on their first-ever horseback ride! Both our one and two-hour rides are suitable for beginners. We’ll ask you about your riding experience when you book, so we can match you to a horse suited to your experience and abilities.

Shoes: We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes with a heel. But if you haven’t yet wandered into FM Light & Sons downtown and bought a pair of cowboy boots, don’t fret! Sneakers can suffice. Just be sure not to wear sandals or crocks. Avoid hiking boots if possible too, as their tread can get stuck in the stirrup.

Jeans: Jeans are what we ride in and we suggest you do too. We’re all about taking home souvenirs, but saddle sores from wearing shorts isn’t one of them!

Also be sure to bring sunglasses and a hat. (Cowboy bonus points if you have a stampede string!)

Yes, we provide helmets designed specifically for horseback riding. All riders under 12 are required to wear them, unless a parent/guardian signs a waiver. We have both children and adult sizes.

We offer private rides, based on availability. These can be more specifically tailored to your riding ability. You can call us for more information!

Most of our horses have a weight limit of 250 pounds. Please give us a call for availability for riders weighing over 250.

We use western-style saddles, which have a horn in front and wider stirrups.

For safety reasons, we don’t let folks wear backpacks on the ride. But, you can keep any water bottles or other items in our saddle bags.
